Tested this extensively in budgie - installing/removing repeatedly via
gnome-software, budgie-welcome, command line. Works everytime.
This patch (as mentioned above) copies back the artful patch
80_file_monitor_delayed.patch - it is unchanged.
In terms of risk I would say none - the same patch
since the package version is the same, the patch equally applies to both
cosmic and bionic.
Please can this be applied to Cosmic - then SRU'd to bionic?

That is coming from python-nautilus - the module that displays plugins
to Files (Nautilus) - it is using the info held locally in gsettings to
display stuff.
You also need to clean up your gsettings - or remove python-nautilus.
Uninstalling tilix does not affect local gsettings.

I had a quick look at the package difference between the artful version
and bionic version of gnome-menus. 80-file-monitor-delayed.patch has

Since this an upstream issue it is waiting for a fix by that team. As
always chromium and chrome are regularly updated as soon as new versions
are made available.

Tried again.
I edited GRUB to boot with nomodeset - this didnt fix the login screen.
Them in a TTY I install nvidia-prime then ran
sudo prime-select intel
After a reboot graphical logon screen (lightdm slick-greeter) and logged
in successfully to the desktop.
So the regression here is that
whilst in the black screen state I switched to a TTY and ran ubuntu-bug
nvidia-390 - I used the keep option to create the .apport file.
After purging and booting back with nouveau I ran "apport-bug apport
.nvidia-driver-390.4lwinjii.apport" to report this issue. If there is a
better way to get

hmmm - what if you install gnome-shell (sudo apt install ubuntu-

I note you are using 32bit - does the issue also occur on the 64bit
Ubuntu ISO / 64bit Ubuntu Budgie ISO?

Testing the packaging for budgie-artwork:
I tested the plymouth update for artful by making sure I was fully up-
to-date, enabling proposed, then installing all the binaries created by
budgie-artwork:
budgie-lightdm-theme
budgie-lightdm-theme-base
plymouth-theme-ubuntu-budgie-logo
Also had reports on this via our support tracker discourse site. Seems
chromium or chrome has this issue. Firefox apparently has no issues in
playing videos.
