I'm seeing the same behaviour in Karmic. Network plasmoid shows negative
values, while Gkrellm shows correct values for the network.
It works properly after a reboot, but at some point (not sure when) it
goes haywire and stays that way (even after suspend to ram and
hibernate) until rebooted.

I've been experiencing exactly the same problem since I upgraded to
Gutsy. MetaMorfoziS, your solution is great, but I decided to make it a
little simpler.
After running Ksynaptics to ensure that your touchpad is configured the
way you want it, just run the command:
