I also find this irritating, and would like to see it fixed properly. I
like having the reconnect policy for when I actually do have network
problems (which happen far too often at my company), but don't want it
when I log out/get kicked off a machine.

And, it just afflicted my Gmail as well. Perhaps it has to do with
moving away from the message before it's been formatted? I wish it
wasn't so irregular, so I could prove/disprove theories.

I retract my previous theory. I just had it happen with a single
sentence email with no images.
However, still no problems with Gmail IMAP. I've tried forwarding scary
messages to my gmail account, but I think once evolution chokes on a
message once, it's fine loading it again.
