Are you sure that karmic is a correct tag for this issue? I thing that
lucid would be more appropriate because I was upgrading from Karmic to
Lucid (so it can be hardly bug in Karmic IMHO).
From the reasons above, I'm removing the karmic tag. Thanks.

In my case (and it's not unusual IMHO) it didn't work because I got a
new laptop and so I installed the world (all the applications I was
able to remember). I can't imagine going through all the descriptions of
all the programs (one note: I migrated from another distro at that time
