The CD looks actually fine:
doing a
md5sum -c md5sum.txt |grep -v OK
on the top level md4sum.txt file in the cd gave no output (ie the keys are
fine).
And in fact the first time I installed it Ubuntu worked fine.
Am I right in assuming that during
I attached some of the log of the system, just in case.
Strange enough, even if I just tried to suspend it (Sun 26 June, at about
08:40), the pm-suspend.log file did not record anything.

assuming that during the CD installation some package is downloaded from
the net, even if I disabled the install upgrades checkbox, is there
any way to know which packages had a new release over the last 1-2
weeks?

Installed ubuntu 11.04 on an HPE 521 10 days ago from a CD and everything was
fine until 3-4 days ago, where it won't reboot, shutdown suspend or hibernate
any more.
Disconnected all peripherals, checked HW with WIndows 7 (where it suspends ok).
