the error in I830WaitLpRing seems to have gone. Some issues still
persist, with screen freeze and gdm restarting mostly after entering the
password at the screensaver lock dialog or restarting the machine from
suspend to ram. I'll submit a new bug report if able to understand where
the error is.

I'm now using the updated driver from xorg-edgers repository since a
couple of weeks and the problem in the bug report title has gone.
