Hi this isn't an issue any more since I only needed to upgrade once.
Haven't upgraded since and will be sticking with 8.04 for a while, but I
will try to remember to look out for this next time I upgrade.

I think what I had done to to the /etc/hosts was to remove the
'127.0.1.1 myhostname' entry and change it to '192.168.1.2 myhostname'
since I had a static IP configured. After the upgrade I would have
expected that to be left alone.

This is not a duplicate of 225439. That bug relates to the upgrade
process incorrectly rewriting /etc/hosts. This one is not related to the
upgrade process and probably also not related to rewriting
