I am using Ubuntu 14.04, Shotwell 0.18.0-0ubuntu4 and this problem still
occures. I tried to backtrace the problem but I am not sure if this
helps since Shotwell actually does not crash or freeze. Only publishing
window vanishes. Also if we start Shotwell via terminal and try add
another account

I can reproduce this bug on current Maverick. The error is the same:

My freecol version is: 0.8.3+dfsg-1
This bug is alive with this version. Now there isn't any matching lines in
/usr/games/freecol for JAVA_HOME. I think this is handled via
/usr/lib/java-wrappers/java-wrappers.sh.

Yes this is reproducible.
Necessary steps are,
Give the command:
gksudo -u gdm dbus-launch gnome-appearance-properties
and configure GDM.
This checks the "Accessibility features can be toggled with keyboard
shortcuts" option every time in System -> Preferences -> Keyboard ->
