Seems not to be a problem of the distro. Also, seems not to be an acer specific prob, although I am also affected (aspire 5738Z, openSuSE 11.1 64-bit). On my system, only the builtin mic is affected, external mic just works fine.
I read in other forums that this could be more a phonon prob rather than an alsa specific, but did not find any solution.
