I'm also seeing this issue, Karmic, but I presume issue is general.
Threw question out in #ubuntu chat, two answers, both affirmative > confirming.
Window gets sent to background but retains focus. Opposed to behaviour
in metacity where focus is transfered as well.

Ran through test case on 9.04:

MyStatusBox, changed avatar, got a crash.[/QUOTE]
Crash/lockup manifests when pressing "open" button in browser, when
adding avatar.
