It did not. /usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable did not exist at all.
I did, noticing the changing path in the error message, in
/usr/share/icons/gnome :
sudo mkdir -p scalable/places
sudo mkdir -p 16x16/places
sudo mkdir -p 22x22/places
sudo mkdir -p 24x24/places
sudo mkdir -p 32x32/places
After *a

All I can say is that it looks very simmilar to

I have an Epson Stylus Color 685 connected by USB and it is recognized
well by the system, but when I try to print a PDF file the application
crashes and no job is sent to the printer. It doesn't happen with Xpdf.
