I gave up on Ubuntu's qdvdauthor, so I am currently running openSUSE
11.0, and qdvdauthor works there (sort of):
- There are thumbnails
- You can play them, but you cannot add them to the project
- The only way to add videos is still through right click on the left area

I am using KVM with Qemu, so I do not know if this will help you. Like you, I
am also puzzled with the way KVM is compiled without Alsa under Ubuntu. After
all, Ubuntu comes with Alsa, and I see no reason whey they do not compile it
with it. It seems like the other distributions (openSuSE,
I have the same problem, and I can add movies if I right click on the
left side of the workspace (white area where video's are supposed to
come). Without giving me any options, it allows me to add videos and
everything works.
The second problem is that the background image is converted to 1

There was a bug in the past versions of QDVDauthor, where you supposed
to prepare audio file into a MP2 file because the conversion did not
work. Now, the program went to the other extreme: even if you prepare

running it up untill I installed 8.04 without any problems.

Among so many other problems with this tool I ran into this same
problem. The workaround that worked for me:
- close virt-manager and instead run the kvm on the .img file from the command
line untill you install your OS (eg., live CD, ISO, etc. )
- One you do this, your HD will be bootable and
Oh, well, this tool is in an early stage of development anyway, that
there is not much point in using it, even if somebody fixes the CD
problem. CLI way is still the way to go. At least for another year or
so.

Thanks. I just installed it (with aptitude), started it for the first
time, and got Sorry, Qemulator closed unexpectedly. If I ignore this
screen, I get to the main screen, and then this same message keeps
popping up. Can't expect much more from 0.5 version :)

Not only do I have the same problem, but if I try to create Windows XP
using an ISO image, it just doesn't get past the Assigning storage
space screen. When I click Forward, nothing happens at all.
This is not the case when I try for example openSUSE. It creates the
disk, but then it fails to
