Removing /var/lib/dpkg/info/mpd.* and then apt-get clean, apt-get update
& apt-get upgrade fixed it

Binary package hint: mpd
Upgraded to 10.04 and mpd must still have been running under 9.10 --
showed some errors at the end of the upgrade process. mpd works fine
now. I was trying to install libmpd2 to make mpdscribble when this error
showed up.
I'll uninstall mpd and reins
