I can confirm this behavior in interpid.

After looking at bash-completion in detail, I believe this belongs to
bash package.
Let me explain the reasons behind this.
bash calls bash-completion, and bash-completion returns all the
filenames as a list of strings. bash takes care of displaying these
strings on the command line.

I tried to recreate this, but gftp is working just fine on my machine. I
tried to upload more than 600 small files and it just uploaded fine.
I am using Hardy - Ubuntu 8.04.1 on my system.

Gftp hangs on transfer
I am unable to recreate this bug. gftp is working just fine on my
system. I am able to connect to ftp site, navigate to a folder
containing more than 600 files, and able to delete them without any
problems.

There are about 16 images in question (including original file).
1) [screenshot-for1.png] screen shot of file browser shows that it can open all

What do you mean by broken file? When I tried to generate the files
using above commands, It generated the files properly and I could open
