just ran unity --reset to see if that faired any better - it looks like
most of the unity desktop is restored but still got suggest raising a
bug message

I was playing around with some compiz settings trying to enable the cube
desktop (So apologies as this was a little bit of a user error
however. ) I've managed to break the unity desktop
I've tried unity --replace and get a warning no exact match for configuration

Hi just encountered a similar issue after upgrading to Natty.
The menu.lst was refusing to update (I believe I've still got grub installed
not grub2) with the 11.04 kernels.
I've just backed up my menu.lst and recreated it using update-grub and new
kernels appear to have been added correctly.

Hi when I decieded to report this 'problem' - this bug seemed the most
appropriate place
When I try to open Places -> Home nautilus doesn't start instead Thunar
starts. I have upgraded to 9.10; The home folder has been around since
8.04 (maybe earlier)

Correction to previous comment
I should also [note] that I did upgrade to Karmic from 9.04
I found that I could get the splash screen and desktop to work with the vesa
driver but not with the .31 kernel - had to use an earlier image to get a
working machine normally the latest .28 kerne

Hi, just tried the Beta of Karmic and it looks like the problem has
returned
I'm not getting a splash screen, desktop or consoles
I went back and checked Alpha 6 which I tested for the upstream team and
found that whilst I did get a desktop I didn't get a splash screen
Happy to raise under a sep

Hi the good news is I've finally got the screen to work on intrepid.
I followed your instructions above for both TMDS and LVDS neither worked (could
still here session starting up though)
So I tried
In section "Section "Device"" add the line:
Option "monitor-VGA" "VGA"
Then the following

Hi, I've tried Karmic - I get similar results
I tried a couple of configurations
1) Standard Karmic
2) My working config attached above
3) My xorg.conf with Intel driver
Only 2 presents a working gdm session; for 1 & 3 I had to fallback on the
console.
Note: It sounded like a session had started
just upgraded to 9.04 - same issue; xorg still fails to show screen with
intel driver.

Hi just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 on acer idea 500; After install
completed the pc rebooted but had a blank display.
After experimenting with the xorg.conf file the only driver which
currently allows X windows/gdm to start successfully is the vesa driver.
Note: i810 driver

Hi I've just completed the updates made available today [12/04]
It included the 2.6.24-16-386 kernel, I've restarted with this kernel and have

Hi Mike, the issue is definitley with the partial upgrade, I was just
thought the change I had to make last week to some mount points might be
relavent - given what I saw when booting in recovery mode.
