I disabled desktop effects for the moment, because some articles on
Internet point in that direction and also the lock up clearly happened
during the fading effect from one window to the other, as described

Similar, probalby same problem here.
- I've been running Kubuntu 14.04 for about a year with no problems. Problem
started about 3 months ago or so, not entirely sure about the period.
- The screen usually locks up when using Firefox, today it happen when I
switched windows from Firefox to Konsol
I can reproduce the issue by playing a video using vlc (both mp4 and
flv, probably other formats too).

I have a simple script running in the background that every second
checks the output of `xset -q` for the current monitor state. However,
every couple days the output is erratic. The script runs as a regular
unprivileged user. I am not sure if the error

Just thought of the following which might be of help:
I did notice corruption of ~/.local
Chain of events:
- video & sound from youtube video working
- apt-get update|upgrade|dist-upgrade|autoremove
- video worked, sound from video muted, other system sounds OK
- reboot
- unable to log to KDE GU

Sound in Youtube videos in Firefox no longer play, it is completely
silent.
I checked Rekonq too, but I don't know if it was working before. It was
working with Firefox 23 until today after I ran all available patches
and Firefox 24 was installed. I did roll back to Firefox 2
The images as shown in my link are PNG's, but in the mean while I also
noticed JPG's on other websites to glitch during scrolling. So far I
only noticed it at the top of the screen.
BTW: I run Kubuntu 13.04, notice the K.

Workaround functions, but with a gotcha: there are two mconfig files on
my system:
- /usr/src/modules/xtables-addons/mconfig (editing this file works as described)
- /usr/src/xtables-addons-1.42/mconfig (seems to be an entirely independent
source tree)
Not sure where the second source tree came

Solved it for the time being by changing 'SSLv3 TLSv1'in sendemail line
1907 to 'SSLv3', but editing files installed by a package manager is bad
practice. Also I don't think this is a proper solution. Here is the code
sniplet:

Comming to think about it, this problem is not with dirvish at all but
with the sendemail program. I use sendemail in the dirvish post scripts
to mail status updates to users.

Probably still early, I know, but after 34hrs I am still in a stable kde
desktop with a load of effects enabled :o) Before it took maybe 15 to 30
minutes to hang.

NoAccel, currently the only option I know to get my system stable. I

Anyways I was saying:
My Virtual 2048x2o48 session including Desktop effects froze after
3h30m. The effects definately slow down just before the freeze.
Currently running the UXA option with virtual turned off.

My (jippie) entry is up there too. My system is stable for over two days
now, since I changed the xorg.conf with
Option "NoAccel" "yes"
Not sure what is meant though with the columns
- has in situ freezes
- happens on live system

Forgot to mention that, when Effects are enabled, the system starts with
really smooth effects and after a little while those effects start to
jump and hickup. At that moment it is just a matter of seconds before
KDE freezes.
BTW: Although this is my first (k)ubuntu install, I come from several
