I came here to say that it's working for me now.
I made a fresh install of karmic 9.10 and the suspend issue is finally gone: i
just have to close the lid, and it works flawlessly.
I had several issues on this machine on jaunty 9.04, i couldn't even *boot*
with the power cable attached.
thanks, but boot_delay didn't help at all.

Ah, that's why it doesn't work.
Same problem here. I didn't have this problem with the previous version of
ubuntu, only on jaunty...

My system boots on battery, no luck with the power cable attached.
Sometimes it won't boot even on battery power.

same here:
while /proc/acpi/button/lid/C1C4/state is able to recognize the status of the
lid (open/closed), power history doesn't record it and standby doesn't kick
in.
