this affected me when installed from scratch Linux stingray 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:05:01 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux but didn't have the problem when upgrade from 9.04 either 32/64 bits version -- nvidia-settings crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()
