I configured the Synaptics keypad following the community document:

I am running on a ASUS z96j, and they are essentially the same model.

I found that I had to leave the entries for the wacom untouched, and search the 
synaptic list for gsynaptics to 
and xbindkeys and the 2 scripts in the walk-through actually enabled the 
disable button when I have my bluetooth mouse 
connected.
