I am beginning to think that the problem is cause by the splashscreen inserted
by (K)ubuntu
when turning off the computer.
Ending X session works normally (as opposed to what I reported above)
The problem occurs when (K)ubuntu tries to show a splash screen.

I have to add that also selecting end session / log off user from kde does
not work.
So the problem occurs when I try to exit the X session in the normal manner,
from the graphical environment.
I never have a problem with aborting the X-session using CTRL-ALT-BKSPC, it
always starts up normally

Forgot to mention that I really use the lastest BIOS, version 19
All BIOS settings are at default (enhanced mode, SATA only)
and putting it in SATA legacy mode did not solve the problem.
And here is the output of lcpci -vvn

I switched it off) is NOT solved by upgrading to
3.5.4.
I Upgraded immediately to 3.5.4 after installing
Dapper... After this upgrade I reported the bug.
