I'm sorry but I will not flash the BIOS. I also don't think that BIOS
has anything to do with the issue since the same machine has been
running Gentoo, KDE Plasma, with 4.2 kernel before Ubuntu, nouveau
driver, with no such issues.
I'll be upgrading 15.04 to 15.10 after it comes out and we'll see

No, Conky works, but Lua Rings configuration file doesn't work in any
Ubuntu flavor since 15.04 & above. But regarding MATE, Ubuntu MATE 14.04.2
seems to be misbehaving for some reason. I'll look into it & report a bug

Also, why is this designated as low priority? Isn't this a very critical
bug for a very likely use case of running Ubuntu on a system with
nvidia, default nouveau driver and editing a LibreOffice document.

Whatever is throttling the CPU seems to be unaware of temperature,
because the more I load the machine, the more reliably "cpufreq-info -w"

I can't see how that information could be helpful in fixing the problem. It
doesn't matter whether there's a common hardware ailment involved in this

I also encountered this problem (gnome-terminal not launching) and in my
case the problem was an invalid $HOME/.pam_environment file from a
previous OS installation. Xterm worked fine. Removing the
.pam_environment file fixed the problem; putting it back triggered the
problem again.

I'm using Ubuntu 15.04 and Xorg version 1:7.7+7ubuntu2
Step to reproduce:
start DRI_PRIME=1 steam (or any other complex 3D program like minecraft)
What is expected:
the program should show it's window(s), those should have the same content as
if started without DRI_PRIME.
At least in Ubuntu 14.10 and 15.04 this bug is fixed. Could someone
confirm this for 14.04?
If It is fixed in 14.04 this bug should be marked as fix released.

Going into Suspend, and then recovering - it wakes up for a second, and
then nothing happens, black screen. The only way is to hold Power button
for few seconds and laptop reboots.
