Xenial 64 bit. IMHO in scenarios such as these where a 'mother' package
becomes obsolete and is replaced by an '-ng' version, the old package

Well, I did a whole bunch of things. I think most notably I switched to
Nvidia's driver for X. I also installed macfanctld.
I wasn't taking note of exactly what I did, because I didn't expect
either of those things to affect this, but it seems at some point
suspend/resume started working properly
Any interim solutions for how to suspend would be welcome, too, because
at the moment I cannot find a way to suspend (and resume!) my laptop. So
I think my only option whenever I need to travel is to either leave it
running with the lid closed, or to shut it down and start it up each
time.

It's possible that what I'm describing below are actually 2 bugs. If so,

On my freshly installed Ubuntu 12.04, there is no way for me to install
i.e. Skype from SC without additional measures because the info on
available packages is not updated when

Just got a complete lock-up on kernel 3.7.4, I could not even ping the
machine anymore. Syslog shows this as the last entry before I shut down
the machine by pressing the power button for > 3 seconds (even the reset
button did not work anymore!):

TO DO: add to release notes, instructions for manually installing apt
as a work around if this bug is encountered.
Ah - well, it'll take me a bit longer to actually fix it, but I've
tracked it down to excruciatingly unlucky timing of cache remapping in a
function unequipped to handle it
