This still occurs in 11/04. I don't remember it when first installed,
so recent updates may have re-introduced this (if it was ever gone).
This is on an Acer Aspire 5517 (AMD 64-bit) with the classic interface.
As reported, re-logging in seems to bring things back. My gut suspicion
is that on the

to gutsy, I wound up here.
I tried Denis's .deb, but, although it's still 2.6.22-14-generic, some even
lower
level version number moved from 46 to 47, and the package doesn't install.

I found the long cat-5 cable and plugged in. Maybe I wasn't patient enough,
but the interface
didn't come up on its own. It was suitably checked, and DHCP was selected. I
can bring it
up with sudo ifconfig eth0 down followed by ...up , but I also have to bring
the wireless down
with ifconfig
I don't know how related, but the Atheros in my Toshiba Satellite (lspci
reports AR2413) connects,
shows other networks in network-manager properties SSID list... (It has
problems switching AP
without a reboot, but that sounds like a separate issue.)

I haven't tried wired, but I may have another manifestation of this, or I may
have something unrelated,
so I ask, are you able to switch locations when they use different access
points?

purpose of connecting the

And looking at the log, I'm not convinced that radeonhd is involved. I figure
that it's just the ati server (though I don't really know). Since I don't know
how to "retarget" this against just xserver-xorg-video-ati, I'm guessing that
adding that package is as close as I can come.

I'm happy to try downgrading the server, etc. I'll need a certain amount of
instruction
as to what versions to try, any required sources changes, command line command
(though I can probably run Synaptic remotely), since I'm no apt/deb expert.
Aditional:
X server consumes 99.9% CPU according to top.
radeontool light on
doesn't turn the light on.
Config file is attached. There is no change from what worked on Feisty's server
other than the workaround option line mentioned in the release notes.
