In Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 LTS I added the line:
Option "RegistryDwords" "PowerMizerEnable=0x1; PerfLevelSrc=0x;
PowerMizerDefaultAC=0x1"
to the "Device" section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf
So it looks like this:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Default Device"
Driver "nvidia"
I'm experiencing this problem on 10.04 Final AMD64. Clean install.

computer would freeze for 20+ seconds and then CPU2 would be running at
100% utilization and it keeps on switching back and forth with freezes

I installed 169.12 driver with EnvyNG on Ubuntu 8.04. Same problem as
before. The screen freezes randomly, maybe once 2-3 times an hour, it
will usually return to normal (unfreeze) after 20+ seconds. Once in
awhile, computer will spontaneously reboot.
I haven't tried the other two Nvidia drivers.
