~/.asoundrc.asoundconf. It apparently changed as a result of what I had
done elsewhere!!!

I almost forgot ... perhpas the most important change was to my
/etc/modules file (see below) the portion below the comment "#ALSA
portion" is new ...

With much work I now have my sound working like it has (in Mandriva) in
the past. Sound still comes out of what is suppose to be the light blue
line in plug (according to the Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe user guide) instead
of the lime green line out. I get sound from both this plug and the gray
rear spea
Yes most definitely using "snd_intel8x0" driver so that is probably not
the problem.

Looks like it might be using the "snd_intel8x0" driver ... though I
really don't know what I am looking at here !!!
