Muon Update Manager fails to apply changes with the following mes

trying to upgrade from Kubuntu 14.04 to 14.10.
while upgrading I got "couldn't install linux-image-extra-3.13.0-34-generic"
message and a request to report the error.
upgrade will apparently continue but linux-image-extra-3.13.0-34-generic
package may not be operational.

By the way, the problem resolved when I did the upgrade from scratch (i.e.
load 14.04 first, then upgrade.)
