xcwcp: PulseAudio output not available (device: ( default ))
with pulseaudio being available fine, so I expected it to use
pulseaudio.

With the latest update, 3.8.0-30.44, the back light stop working again.
In the change log I saw that the fix which was added in 3.8.0-20.31 is removed.
The latest kernel makes the XPS 13 unusable.

Mine is also the Ubuntu version. I thought the bios for the Windows and the
Ubuntu version are the same.

control is working with the latest kernel, also I've the latest bios
installed A08.
So lets compare the settings for the bios,

I'm trying to convert an .m4a file to .mp3 so my aging mp3player can
play it, but the sox audio convertor simply gives a segmentation fault.

plot it opens the first .gps file and closes it and stays at 100% cpu
load.
