Hopefully it was a one time event. If it reoccurs, I will try to come up
with repro steps and test the mainline kernel. I reported this more to
capture my occurrence as a data point should others find they are seeing
the same issue.

Public bug reported:
I was away from my computer, returned, and found Ubuntu sitting at the
login screen because X had crashed.
Then after a few minutes of using my computer after logging back in, my
computer completely froze. (Mouse, keyboard entirely unresponsive).

Workaround I'm using in Intrepid:
Download rhino1_7R1.zip from Mozilla
(http://www.mozilla.org/rhino/download.html).
Extract js.jar from that zip.
Replace /usr/share/java/js-1.7R1.jar with the js.jar you just extracted.

Yesterday "metacity --replace" did in fact restore my mouse's clicking
capability. Today the bug happened again for me though, and "metacity

Today I encountered this yet again, and in the middle of closing down
everything prior to yet another ctrl-alt-delete to restart X I decided
to see restarting my window manager would make any difference.
The good news (relatively good, anyway) is that it did. I fired up a terminal
and did:

Hopefully this will be of benefit to the thread - I had this behavior
occur once yesterday and twice today and I seem to have found a way to
reproduce it.

I can confirm the bug is still around in Hardy. (I'm experiencing it
too).

I hate to add a comment that I can't speak to directly, but a co-worker

The solution:
Apparently it is an issue with the evdev input driver. Thanks to "doranikov",

I've had this problem occur on my workstation a few week ago, and I'm
still running Gutsy and VMWare Server 1.0.4. A co-worker just had this
happen with Hardy / VMWare Server 1.0.5, and then, after upgrading
VMWare Server, VMWare Server 1.0.6. (So, this problem spans beyond a
