Specific to the sound applet.
Did some more testing:
1) If there are 2 sound applets and I remove one: the second one crashes.
2) Then I added one and after restart the one that crashed reappeared -> 2
applets again.
3) back to point 1.

restarting the nm-applet leads to an empty menu (no eth at all)
restarting /etc/init.d/NetworkManager brings back the network and the nm-applet
again shows double entries for each adapter..

This problem has nothing to do with false fstab settings.
My fstab contains UUIDs as it should.
The real problem is that the kernel doesn't detect my 2 cd-rom drives
and the don't show up in/dev/ like they did with 2.6.20-13.
