I have similar problem with 32bit kubuntu lucid: cron doesn't running
after reboot
sudo service cron status
cron stop/waiting
chkconfig:
acpi-support off
acpid off
alsa-mixer-save off
anacron off
apparmor on
apport off
atd off
avahi-daemon off
binfmt-support on
bluetooth off
bootlogd off
This bug affects NVIDIA as well.

I have the same problem. The log files are huge. I do not receive messages on
the cpu but normal messages but that is repeated every second and increase the
use of just the cpu and hd space.

I left this computer for windows 2000 and install ubuntu hardy in other
computer.
The error was: xorg was incompatible with my video-s3virge and i can't fix.

Use nvidia. I just installed ubuntu a karmic koala pcchips A15G
everything is ok with the exception of the totem, the brightness and
contrast has no effect.
