When I was using Lucid, the screensaver when locking my screen would
ask for the password 2 times. After the first time of entering it, the
black would go away for about 1 second, and I'd see my desktop
followed by it turning black again

Any news on this? Anybody at least found a workaround? I cannot install,
remove, upgrade packages. My package manager is broke because of this.

I have the same problem and the same workaround mentioned above had been
bringing the icons back, but they disappear again after closing the
nautilus window, and nautilus should continue to run in the background,
but it's not. See my 3 comments below. The last line of output from
