I just did run a "apt autoremove" without being careful enough and can't
boot anylonger. After rebooting it just prints:

the Gnome Live image to report it as upstream bug. I think there was a
bug in gnome-screensaver. But now after installing 12.10 the bug
disappeared.

Prism apps are not starting. Trying to start a prism app from a terminal e.g.
prism-google-mail nothing happens, one or two seconds later the program closes

the ubunut sound preferences, the sound card is not working any more.

I can confirm this behaviour. I found out how I can still create launchers on
the desktop:
- drag the address bar icon to the desktop (and don't drop it)
- when you left the firefox window with your mouse and you are ready to drop
it on the desktop press and hold ALT
- drop it to the deskt

Using Ubuntu 9.10 I just added manually the new line from the patch to
/etc/pam.d/gdm:
