i just compiled gtk3-engines-oxygen 1.4.1 (wiley sources) and replaced
the stock 1.3.* package on my trusty system. that fixed the problem with
firefox.
so backporting that package might be a good idea.

same here, updating to recent PPA packages for 4.13.1 disabled l10n,
most KDE applications are in english now. i was also made a new desktop
folder ("Arbeitsfläche") with distorted umlaut characters. this is a
serious bug.
not *all* KDE programms are affected (e.g., RKWard still starts up in
germa
still broken in the 4.13.2 packages

today the 4.13.1-0ubuntu0.1 packages seem to have arrived in the
standard ubuntu repos. this successfully introduced the bug on a
productive machine where i have purposely *not* activated the kubuntu-
PPA repositories.

seems to be fixed in 4.13.2-0ubuntu0.1~ubuntu14.04~ppa1 (you have to
manually set the locale settings again after upgrading). this should
*really* be backported! this bug should not have been shipped with
regular packages in the first place.

i can confirm this, this seems to be severely broken.
after upgrading to kubuntu 10.10 from 10.04, kdm seems to start as
usual, but after typing in the password and hitting enter nothing
happens. console login fails as well, it just freezes after the
password.
a nasty workaround:
boot in recovery
had the same problem. i tried the patch provided by John McManigle, and
it solved it.

i ran into this with 1:6.0.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.7 and the aforementioned
workaround still saved me. is this another regression?

PPAs are third party repositories. for security reasons, PGP keys for
these must not be placed in /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d, according to this
document:

they should instead be saved to /usr/share/keyrings and the generate
i ran into the same problem. until it's solved, this manual workaround
should do the trick -- edit your ~/.kde/share/config/dolphinrc and
append:

ExpandableFolders=true
restart konqueror, and enjoy the surprise that it obviously interprets
dolphin's settings as well...

with the gnupg2 version 2.1.11-6ubuntu2 shipped with ubuntu 16.04 it is
impossible to send an encrypted email to people using up-to-date ECC
algorithms in their OpenPGP key. newer encryption algorithms *should* be
omitted by older gnupg2 versions in favor of supported alternat
on a second thought, please don't actually send mails.
it is sufficient to just import the key in question and try to encrypt a
file with it:
gpg2 --recv-keys F2AD85AC1E42B367
touch /tmp/test.txt
gpg2 --recipient F2AD85AC1E42B367 --encrypt /tmp/test.txt
on xenial, you'll see an error that
