You received this bug notification because
I am a bit perplexed uvesafb and efifb (shipped with grub2 and
activated quite simply) work well with nvidia, radeon and nouveaux (I
don't know about all models or ATI propriety). So couldn't the fb from
either of these be used or parts of the code to either patch or replace
the vga16fb at least
Thanks Scott,
Damn I never realised the code name had been released Maverick Meerkat.
Sticking with higher animals I see. Maybe we will have to wait for
Yabbling Yeast till we see something a bit lower.

Hi Sebastian not too sure what you mean? I am using the language
selector from the login screen.

Language defaults to the GDM screen language on user login, even though the
user selects a different language.

You received this bug notification because
OK once I move the selected language to the first position in the list I
get the correct behaviour. Maybe this should be linked in with the login
screen I think though.
Thanks,
Dougie

Yes it is. Its a rather annoying bug that is a regression from Karmic.
1 Step to reproduce:
Switch the GDM to lets say Japanese. Log in as any other language and most (not
all) of the system has Japanese Menus.
Completely reproducible on all 4 of my computers, worked perfectly in Karmic.

Alternatively (this works for me with Lucid, Nvidia with grub2) you can
edit your grub (sudo gedit /etc/default/grub) file and add the
following:
GRUB_GFXMODE=1280x800
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1280x800x32
then run:
sudo update-grub
The keep borks the terminals for gfxpayload but the
Johan thanks replacing keep with 1280x800x32 works on my DELL M1330.
Looks like GRUB2 is the culprit

OK after reading the uvesafb manual I came up with this rather simple
workaround that makes my boot experience much better, still a bit jumpy.
sudo gedit /etc/initramfs-tools
add:
uvesafb mode_option=1280x800-32 mtrr=3 scroll=ywrap
obviously changing your resolution to what you want then:
sudo
Oh I got nice hires ttys as well. The set gfxpayload=keep workaround
borked my ttys.
