I got here after upgrading 14.04 to 16.04. At first I got the problem as
originally described. Then I installed the proposed packages (7.0.5
+dfsg-4ubuntu0.1).
This appears to have solved the original problem. However, I get the
same error as Marcus Meyer above:

This seems to be a problem in the upstream version. I have investigated
the problem further and found a possible soultion. See the attached

Hello,
I have the same behavior on my Jaunty. I don't remember when it happened first,
around the end of March, but now, each time I try to insert something in my DVD
reader / burner, nautilus crashes. I can see the following kind of error
messages in /var/log /messages:

Baptiste,
unfortunately the behaviour seems a bit inconsistent. I tried your
suggestion, but i don't get any relevant output, so it seems pointless
to create a new bug. And now no empty files are created either.

I don't agree that it is an acceptable solution to have to download and
compile your own driver, which I suppose will have to be redone for
every kernel update that is released.
The r8169 driver should normally be able to handle the r8168 interface,
which it does fine in Gutsy.

After upgrading to 8.10 I have problems connecting to one of my two

I have not investigated this a lot, but in my case the easiest solution
was to remove the brltty package. If someone looks into this, I guess
that the brltty configuration should be made less greedy by default.
