I just wanted to report that I have got the same problem after having
installed Ubuntu 8.10 with the new kernel.

I don't think I did it right. I couldn't find this character | on the
keypad so I've used the / slash. But it says the processes.log file is
empty...

Bugs,
As I said, I don't get no sound at all from the computer (I tried
different applications), including the system sounds.
I don't know how to run applications from the terminal.

I've got an acer aspire 5720. using ubuntu 8.04 (hardy) GNOME 2.22.2.
everything works fine, but when I re-login after a session stop
(Sospensione, in italian), I get no sound at all from the computer.
when I restart the computer, then it comes
