Well, some success here... I was also troubleshooting some battery life issues; namely why another T530 user was seeing 7+ hrs life vs. less than 3 for me. Turns out I didn't have separate drivers installed for my nVidia Optimus card. I added the drivers using the instructions here:

I have the same problem... Lenovo ThinkPad T530 that has been running Linux (pretty much any distro) fine until recently. Currently dual- booting Win7 Pro and Ubuntu 12.10. Tried installing Fedora 18 and Fuduntu 2013.1 for multi-boot about a week ago. Live USB worked fine... install went fine...
