And another strange thing. I tried to install latest Ubuntu (built
September, 2), and successfully boot into it. However, strange things
were happening during the boot: screen just switched off 15-20 seconds.
But finally i was able to log in to the system. The only thing I did -
connected to WiFi,

I have a similar issue with nvidia drivers where X does not start at all
and Ubuntu goes into login screen. Downgrading to 295.20 does nothing.
Is something wrong with the latest kernel, because the only way to boot is by
using the older kernel (3.0.0+ in my case), not with the latest.

Sorry for long time without any comment, this is really was problem with disk,
Fedora 13 installer says that disk contains RAID BIOS metadata, but no RAID
present, and not show disk too on partition creating step. Erasing by 'dd
if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda' don't help, so I use ERASE command from M

Hi Dave, I select "nodmraid" option at boot screen, and now installer don't see
any disk or partition on step 4. No buttons except Forward, Back and Quit
enabled for this step.
Gparted works with disk fine.

I manage to destroy (as in works now randomly, with a lot of noise and only for
around 5 minutes) two external 500GB H
I confirm the bug even now. Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit, with the 2.6.24-17-generic
kernel.
MB is Asus P5B Plus, the error is -16, Ubuntu detects no sound cards:
