I have the same problem after I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10.
Usually I edit the files I opened via a Nautilus FTP connection in Gedit.
Since upgrading I get a red warning box in gedit and have to save one or two
times more until it is saved via FTP.

I had exactly the same problem like in your screenshot after updating
von "nv" to "nvidia" driver.
Finally, running the command
nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=0
after starting X helped for my GeForce4 Ti 4200.
Trying max. value 4 made it worse!
You can query you actual setting with
nv

If I search for the "ß" character in gedit (e.g. to substitute it with ß
html code) there will be all "ss" found and further the "ß" with it's next

The problem got fixed in build glabels 2.1.3-3. It works fine after
installing package for Debian. I hope this update gets also in Gutsy and
not first time in Hardy.

Also the same here, it only works with the default page size set in the
preferences dialog. (A4 or Letter). This bug is appearing after update
from feisty to gutsy.
