After a fresh install and full update of Intrepid Ibex, I still don't
have any sound whatsoever. However, I was able to reliably force full
sound capabilities by booting up Windows and playing a specific computer
game for a few seconds before rebooting into Ubuntu.

I looked into why elisa specific code was breaking the build of
unrelated python packages. Elisa advertises a 'egg_info.writers' entry
point of 'elisa_infos.txt = elisa.core.utils.dist:write_dict' which
means elisa.core.utils.dist is imported every time someone calls
setup.py bdist_egg. And becaus
I would think it would be better to comment out the line that sets
setuptools.dist.check_test_suite = override_check_test_suite than to
replace the body of the override_check_test_suite function. That would
leave the original check_test_suite intact.

selections but due to a small bug it does not restore them when
restarted. The attached patch has a two line fix for this problem. The

I can confirm this fix is still required and works in Hardy. Before
applying this gnome-translate would just write the untranslated text in
the "Translated text" box.
