I have a Compaq V2718WM (V2000 Series) and I have the same issue with
the mute LED. The mute button itself works just find to mute/unmute the
sound. But when it is muted, the LED should illuminate. I would be
willing to test/track down problems; however, I do not know where to
start on tracking

Mode" heading (eg. 300dpi, black + color, photo paper), it seems that
the selection in the "General" heading of Printout Mode takes
precedence, and the only listings there are either black or color cart,
