I can NOT confirm that it works if the passwords are stored in kwallet!
I can still not use the vpn connection. If I click it in the gui of
plasma-widget-networkmanagement on the vpn connection, nothing happens.
By the way, the link to the help-page does not work either in that
widget.

Same here! Can set the variables in the vpn dialog under this widget but
the icon afterwards cannot be clicked (and the connection cannot be
made). (using vpnc not OpenVpn).

I first thought, it was a defect hard drive (SATA external via USB) when
I saw the exact same error messages as above:

I experience a VERY similar behavior with a Wester Digital WD 500ABYS SATA HD
(via USB connected).

Interesting is, that the network manager suggests vpnc or openvpn even if none
are installed.
But for vpnc- which I normally use - I have the same issues as Alan mentioned
above, even when vpnc 0.5.3 is installed.
I also use an up to date Jaunty version (Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link
