Well, I really appreciate the workaround proposed by Igor, great job, many
thanks! At least it has made sound to work more predictable.
However, I believe the issue is broader than just playing with the audio

I must admit I've spent huge amount of time figuring out what had caused my
Ctrl key to behave in such inconvenient way as described here :)

keep it as is. It definitely have to be fixed and work as user expects it
I see the same issue as Aswarp reported (the shutdown problem), only in
GNOME, both 32bit and 64bit. When clicking shutdown (or restart) in

O.K.
My question is:
how can I modify the Ubuntu 10.04 installation iso image to contain the
2.6.34-999 kernel?
And:
the new kernel makes graphics very slow. How can I return to the old fast
graphics with the new stable kernel?
Thanks for any advice

I am using ati-driver-installer-10-4-x86.x86_64.run
Can this be fixed?
The conclusion: the default kernel of Ubuntu 10.04 is difficult to use on the

Hi Jeremy,
I did this:
rm *.deb
wget
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/linux-image-2.6.34-999-generic_2.6.34-999.201005041005_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
and reboot.
I get a black screen with a blinking cursor (white underscore) in the top-left
corner.
