Yes, that's the display issue; I suppose the only extra strangeness with
this is that it goes straight into the screen-saver / lock. Either way I
think we could call this one completed and the discussion can continue
at 10581. Thanks for looking into it.

18.04 is actually slightly different. What happens now is that when you click
on Suspend, the screen goes black, as though the screensaver had started. When
you move the cursor etc, you get the unlock dialog, again as though returning
from the screensaver. You are then faced with a blank window
I just tried with the Vivid kernel (3.18.0) and had the same error. I
needed to restart lightdm to get things going again.

Just in case this is useful I reverted the changes in that commit which affects
two files:
drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915_drv.c and
drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_fb.c
I thought originally it must be the changes in i915_drv so just reverted
those. This resulted in the system coming back from resume but I

Thanks for the link. As I said in my post this is a PPR21E (latest

Hi there, the Toshiba site has only version 1.20-WIN BIOS [1], my
installed one reports 1.60 and trying to run the 1.20-WIN from Win XP
results in a message saying BIOS incompatible so I assume it's
preventing a downgrade. Do you have a link to a v1.70 BIOS? (This is a

Hi there, I finally managed to do a bisect on this. It took a while
because the good and bad kernels were in non-linear branches so I had to

OK, I purged cups (removing /etc/cups/ppd) and re-installed from

guess that the problem was in one of those config files.
