First, it's better to report upstream problems directly upstream (either
gnokii-users mailing list or
http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/gnokii).
As for your concerns: as you already noticed you need devel libraries
(-dev packages) to compile from the sources. Compile-time requirements
are
You should first configure gnokii and then run xgnokii.

I can confirm that suspend/resume works correctly in Ubuntu 8.10
(however there are some issues that I'll report separately). As a side
note: Ubuntu 8.04 with the same kernel did NOT resume, so that's some
userspace problem apparently.

resume after suspend does not work
I can't really say if 2.6.27 fixes the problem as it doesn't initialize
video properly (black screen) and I'm unable to do anything with that. I
was able to do just one test -- now I am away off the home computer and
I'll be able to do more tests in three weeks.
BTW. I can report regression wrt
I meant for Hurdy. There were many important bugs fixed since the
version shipped in Hurdy.

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnokii
There's new gnokii version released which fixes few important bugs:
- nk6510 driver (currently most phones used with gnokii) segfaulted with
sendsms
- fixed encoding issues to base64 (bug resulted in incorrect ldif output for
utf-8 strings)
-
Please report it with your gnokii config file, phone model and
connection type. It seems that your hardware (probably serial cable) is
not well supported by Linux kernel or you misconfigured gnokii.
