channel names have a strange leading character. I will attach a
screenshot. I'm also under the impression that some channels are
missing, but I'm not sure, it might be because of low signal.

I don't really know. But in the mean time I tried some older versions of me-TV
and succeded with 0.5.33 which scanned without crashing. One station name was
WDR Köln which contains a german 'umlaut' (special character) and I suspect if
it is not in UTF-8 it might be either ISO-8859-1 or ISO
