I hope I am doiging this correctly and have the right location for doing
so. I have been trying for a week now to update from ubuntu 7.10 to
8.04.

I finally figured it out.
I had some option toggled on in the Download Software interface that was
referring to a CD rom. Once I toggle that off, all went well and I am
up and running now.
