I've been having the same exact problem with 10.04 (CentOS was/is fine)
NOW 12.04 is out and still the same problem. Exactly the same output as
jbowen7.
I haven't tried rootdelay=120 yet... for some reason grub let's pick the
recovery but it doesn't recongnize e for edit.

This bug is still happening on Oneiric, however, removing the Nvidia
drivers will fix this issue. I tried all versions of the drivers. I even
installed the one from their website (version 295.33) and still not
luck.

wow, when I started searching the net I didn't expect to find an open

Same here, I have 16 GB of ram and 32GB in a swap file (not a
partition). I have 6 1TB SCSI drives in raid 5 and I get about 250MB/s
write through put and double that in read. So I expect my swap file to
be fast
This bug is no longer valid with Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 sense the
notification doesn't use a message box any more.

Add me to the me too wagon, but in my case the system completely
freezes, the monitor turns dark and the host system would stop
responding to arps/pings

On my first login to the gnome desktop ,after a fresh install of Ubuntu
9.04 amd64, I got a warning from Power Manager (attached image) saying
that my battery is at 16% of its capacity. I tried to click Do not show
me this again but the window didn't close. Clicking close
I ran into this bug with ALT install of Ubuntu 9.04 64bit beta as
well This means I can't ship Ubuntu to my father just yet.

I think Its worth mentioning the following:
1- This problem happens only on Ubuntu, I've used fedora 7,8,9 and 10 for two
years and never saw this issue (with or without video files); However, it
showed up once every month or so on my other Ubuntu machines. So the problem
