I've confirmed this to be a problem with Feisty. It has NOT been fixed
there.

I've also verified this is a problem with Fedora Core 3 (a colleague's
computer also shows the same problem).

Ah, yes! Live CD's! Why didn't I think of that? ... OK, I've downloaded
the live distro cd.
The computer in question is my work computer so I'll have to do it when
I get the chance - hopefully in the next few days.

dump.
If I then copy libstdc++-3-libc6.2-2-2.10.0.so from my hoary
distribution, I get the correct output.
