I have always substituted sudo pm-suspend for the shutdown command. I
couple that with irblaster commands to shut off the tv in
/etc/pm/sleep.d. My MCEUSB remote then wakes the computer with the press
of the power button and I issue an irblaster command that turns on the

I experienced the same problem using 9.04 amd64 with my dell studio 15
and mobility radeon 3400 graphics card. I also got a similar black
screen lockup when I tried to switch users, which is not mentioned in
the initial bug report. I tried with the radeon driver and fglrx 8.60

To be more precise in my bug report:

The AlwaysRestartServer fix had no effect on this error for me.

I have a clean install of feisty 7.04 final on with nvidia GeForce 6200
card utilizing nvidia driver from restricted drivers manager. (In other
words a very stock installation). This bug really detracts from the waf
of feisty. The switch user feature worked fine on this system in edgy
and dapper.
